Senvion has concluded a 10-turbine order for 30MW Taranto offshore wind farm in Italy after developer Renexia confirmed a final investment decision on the project earlier this week.
The turbine manufacturer will provide 10 3.0M112 turbines to the near-shore project. Senvion said the generators have been specially adapted for the offshore environment.
Senvion has also helped develop a customised installation procedure for the units, which will be installed and commissioned later this year.
The turbines will be installed on monopile foundations in waters between 3 and 18 metres deep in Taranto’s outer harbour.
“For this project, Senvion has been able to leverage its experience and develop for Renexia an offshore version of its 3.0M122 wind turbine,” said Senvion executive director David Hardy.
“This modular approach is promising for many offshore markets around the globe,” he added.
Renexia Managing director Riccardo Toto said the project was part of a “wider strategy” for the company.
“Renexia is pursuing in the U.S. through two important projects and also worldwide with many other projects,” Toto said.
