Black & Veatch has been awarded a design services contract to support the delivery of the proposed up to 240MW Morlais tidal demonstration zone off Anglesey in north Wales.
The work including designing the infrastructure to connect tidal arrays to the National Grid, as well as other support to bring the project to construction tender phase.
The Morlais zone is managed by Anglesey development company Menter Mon, which leases areas of the seabed to developers for the construction of tidal arrays.
The site is located adjacent to where Swedish tidal kite developer Minesto deployed its Deep Green device in the Holyhead Deep.
“Demonstration zone projects such as Morlais are crucial stepping stones in helping marine energy reach maturity and commercial viability,” said Black & Veatch UK director for renewable energy Robbie Gibson.
Morlais director Gerallt Llewelyn Jones added: “We are pleased to be working alongside Black & Veatch on the project.”
“They have a wealth of experience in the sector and a reputation for innovation, and will certainly add value as our work progresses,” he added.
