Vattenfall has decided to participate in the 750MW offshore wind tender for Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) 3&4, in the Dutch part of the North Sea.
The HKZ 3&4 tender is open between 1 March and 14 March.
After having won the subsidy-free tender for HKZ 1&2 tender in the Netherlands, Vattenfall is highly motivated to participate in the round for HKZ 3&4, according to chief executive Magnus Hall.
In September 2018, Vattenfall received the irrevocable permit for the construction of the 700MW HKZ1&2 and the developer has already started with initial preparations, carrying out various geographic surveys at the site of the wind farm in the North Sea.
According to Vattenfall scale advantages can be realised if the two projects can be combined, helping to reduce costs.
Vattenfall head of business area wind Gunnar Groebler said: “In our offer we will be able to profit from the efforts already put into HKZ 1&2.
“Besides cost benefits, this will also give us a head start on design and construction, further reducing the risk in the project schedule. All in all, it has enabled us to prepare a very solid proposal for Hollandse Kust Zuid 3&4.”
According to Groebler the developer has been thorough in making sure the business case for the wind farm is robust and show it is well equipped to manage all risks.
“Vattenfall combines a strong track record in building and operating wind farms in a reliable, safe and cost efficient way with an ability to handle electricity market price exposure and sell renewable electricity to our Dutch customers.
“Handing in this bid means we are committed to building the entire HKZ cluster and operate it for the next decades to come,” he said.
To date Vattenfall operates 1.7GW of offshore wind capacity in Europe.
