Vikram Solar has commissioned a 200MW photovoltaic project for Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation in India.
The plant, in the Anatapuramu district in Andhra Pradesh, is segregated into two 100MW blocks to maximise output.
Vikram Solar, an India-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services provider, constructed the PV plant on rocky terrain, which created several challenges, according to company chief operating officer Kuldeep Jain.
The site had to be prepared by removing boulders and rocks, while blasting was used to create trenches deep enough for cables.
According to Jain, a lack of natural earth material for backfilling presented additional engineering issues.
Vikram Solar will also carry out operations and maintenance for five years from the date of commissioning.
Power from the plant will be exported via two pooling substations with a 33/220 kilovolt (kV) capacity, which will then transfer the electricity to a 220/400 kV main substation.
Jain said: “Meticulous planning and strategy development in engineering and operations helped us in successfully completing the project with a daily average installation of around 4MW.”
