India has installed just shy of 75GW of renewables capacity, according to figures released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
As of 31 December 2018, the country’s cumulative renewables capacity reached 74.79GW, consisting of 35.14GW of wind, 25.21GW of solar, 9.92GW of bioenergy and 4.52GW of small hydro.
Karnataka is the state with the largest base of installed renewable energy capacity, with 12.9GW. Solar and wind account for just under 10GW of capacity with biomass and small hydro making up the rest.
Tamil Nadu is next, with approximately 12GW installed, followed by Maharashtra with 9.3GW and Gujarat with 7.9GW.
According to MNRE, Tamil Nadu is the state with the highest amount of wind capacity with 8.6GW installed, followed by Gujarat with 5.9GW, Maharashtra with 4.8GW and Karnataka with 4.7GW.
The state with the most solar is Karnataka with 5.2GW, followed by Telangana with 3.4GW, Rajasthan with 3.1GW and Tamil Nadu with 2.2GW.
