Hitachi is to concentrate on marketing wind turbines made by German company Enercon, rather than continue with its own manufacturing business, and will also enhance its operations and maintenance services.
The move will see Enercon machines integrated with Hitachi digital technology and builds on an existing arrangement between the two companies in place since 1997.
Hitachi said it will continue to provide maintenance and services to the company’s turbines installed at existing wind farms around the world.
The Japanese company said it plans to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence in O&M solutions and is conducting testing in conjunction with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and the University of Tokyo to help boost energy production.
“Business models are in transition, shifting away from the sellout model that focused on the sale of wind power generators in favour of service models that incorporate long-term operation and management packages,” Hitachi said.
