Geotechnical engineering outfit Cathie Associates is working with a local consultancy to target opportunities in South Korea’s growing offshore wind market.
UK-based Cathie Associates has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Blue Wind Engineering.
The two parties have already worked together on a key project in the subsea power cable market, concerning the third transmission line between the Korean mainland and Jeju island.
They intend to continue to share knowledge benefitting both parties.
Cathie Associates has worked on over two-thirds of all European offshore wind farms including London Array, Le Treport and Borssele and has over 40GW of experience in offshore wind farm projects worldwide.
Headquartered in South Korea, Blue Wind Engineering was established to contribute to the development of wind power industry in the country, offering services ranging from the design of wind farms to the design and certification support of wind power components, production and construction.
Cathie Associates co-managing director Robin Comrie said: “As South Korea aims to triple the share of renewables in its power mix by 2030, we hope to play a role in the offshore wind sector growth in the region.
“We are happy to have partnered with Blue Wind Engineering as this provides us with a unique opportunity to bring our 40GW of offshore wind engineering expertise to South Korea.”
Blue Wind Engineering director Jone Oh said: “We are excited to have completed our first project together with Cathie Associates and look forward to working on many more in the future.”
