Chinese energy company State Power Investment Corp has received approval for the first phase of an up to 6GW wind farm in the Inner Mongolia region of China.
Approval was granted by the Wulanchabu Municipal Development and Reform Commission for the Wulanchabu project, SPIC said.

The over €5bn wind farm, which would be the largest onshore project in the world, will be located on 3800 square km of land at Siziwangqi, it added.
Wulanchabu will deliver 18 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and will also power the 2022 Winter Olympics, SPIC said.
The company added that the next step will be to start preparations for construction.
