Nexans has completed a high voltage cable project to connect Banks Renewables’ 88MW Kype Muir wind farm in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
The 16km underground cable connection links the new 132/33kV SP Energy Networks substation at the Kype Muir site with the existing Coalburn 400/132 kV grid substation.
SP Energy Networks set a project delivery timescale of eight months including design, manufacture, and delivery of the cable, civil works, cable laying, design and supply of the cable accessories, jointing and commissioning.
Nexans supplied a total of around 50km of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cable manufactured at its Charleroi factory in Belgium.
Cable accessories, which were manufactured at Nexans Switzerland’s plant in Cortaillod, included six FEV outdoor terminations and 60 cross-bonding joints.
SP Energy Networks project unit manager David Raftery said: “The Kype Muir to Coalburn 132 kV undergound cable was a challenging project but good working relationships between SP Energy Networks and Nexans project teams led to a positive outcome.”
The 26-turbine Kype Muir wind farm is due online later this year.
