The Danish government has narrowed the options for its next offshore wind farm to a North Sea site north of Horns Rev and a Baltic location on Kriegers Flak.
Officials will consult with local interests near both areas before making a final decision in March 2019 on which to bring to tender.
The formal process to award development rights will start in June.
The site is the first of at least three promised by the Danish government for construction by 2030.
Each will be at least 800MW and the initial project is due online between 2024 and 2027.
The North Sea site is off Ringkobing between the existing Horns Rev complex (pictured) and the planned Vesterhav projects.
Kriegers will join the planned 600MW project being built by Vattenfall.
Screening was carried out by engineering company Cowi and resulted in four of six originally identified areas being moved aside.
