Consolidated Edison has added 980MW of renewables capacity to its portfolio through the acquisition of a subsidiary of Sempra Energy for $1.6bn.
The deal raises Con Edison’s total clean power capacity to 2.6GW across 17 US states.

It also includes development rights for additional solar and energy storage projects, the company said.
Included in the 980MW are 379MW that Sempra and Con Edison jointly owned previously, it added.
Con Edison chairman and chief executive John McAvoy said: “Our acquisition of these renewable energy assets builds on a strong record of environmental commitment, and our determination to be national leaders in clean energy initiatives.”
