India’s Suzlon Group has been awarded a turnkey contract by Atria Power for a wind project in Tamil Nadu.
The contract for the 50.4MW facility, in Tuticorin, includes installation of 12 2.1MW turbines with hybrid lattice tubular towers.
The project, now in its advanced stages of development, will be commissioned in two phases during the first half of 2020.
This order forms part of a Letter of Intent (LoI) for orders of 484MW.
Suzlon will also provide operation and maintenance services for the Tuticorin wind farm.
Atria Power director Sunder Raju said: “In our plan to build 1000MW of power projects, we are actively enhancing our renewable energy portfolio in the country in line with government’s thrust on green energy.
The project will further Atria’s footprint in Tamil Nadu’s commercial and industrial energy market, according to Raju.
He added: “We are simultaneously working on converting this plant into a wind-solar photovoltaic hybrid plant to provide a more reliable energy supply to our customers.
“We are pleased to partner with Suzlon, given their technologically advanced products, engineering, procurement and construction capabilities, operations and maintenance services.”
Suzlon group chief executive JP Chalasani said: “We are glad to partner with Atria Power and look forward to forge a solid partnership with this maiden venture.
“We believe the synergy in our common resolve towards India’s energy security brought us together to partner for this project. We are seeing an increased interest from all customer segments to invest in renewable energy.”
Suzlon’s ‘concept to commissioning’ and value added services for the life time of the project, offers convenience to customers for setting up wind power projects, said Chalasani.
“The project will be commissioned in two phases and will comprise of S111-140m and S120-140m, the tallest wind turbines in the country,” he added.
