Enbridge is in talks to supply electricity from the 350MW Havsul 1 offshore wind farm off the coast of Norway to the Nyhamna gas processing plant.
The Canadian developer earlier this year secured an option to develop the wind project from Vestavind, as first reported in June by the subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
An Enbridge spokeswoman said the company did not expect to make a final investment decision on the wind project “during the next year”. She declined to comment on the project’s expected completion date.
Nyhamna, located in western Norway, currently provides the UK with around 20% of its natural gas supplies.
“Our intention is to enter into a commercial agreement with the Nyhamna gas processing facility to supply a dedicated source of renewable electricity, also enhancing security of supply for the facility,” the Enbridge spokeswoman said.
Havsul 1 will be located 7km off the island of Sandoy in More og Romsdal and was consented in 2009. The original developers put the project on ice in 2012.
