Cornish tidal developer Inyanga-Tech has received funding from development agency Marine-i to develop its HydroWing technology.
The funding has enabled the recruitment of two specialised research project engineers.
The Penryn outfit aims to install a first demonstrator of a subsea device in 2020.
Inyanga-Tech director Richard Parkinson said: “We are investigating several site options in collaboration with industrial partners and we continue to welcome further collaboration from interested parties.”
“The HydroWing project is the realisation of years of experience within our team to develop a collaborative solution to commercial exploitation of tidal energy,” he added.
The company has also received additional support from the Marine-i lead partner, the University of Exeter, which is undertaking tidal energy research focused on operations, maintenance, reliability and yield analysis.
Part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Marine-i is a £9.3m collaboration between the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, The Cornwall College Group, Cornwall Marine Network, Cornwall Development Company and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.
