Vestas has won a turbine order totalling 294MW from Enel Green Power for two wind farms in South Africa.
The Danish manufacturer will deliver 70 V136-4.2MW machines with hub heights of 82 metres to the 147MW each Karusa and Soetwater projects in the Western Cape region of the country.
The deal covers supply, installation and commissioning and also includes a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution and a five-year active output management 5000 service agreement.
Installation is planned for the second half of 2020.
Vestas will also fulfil local content and skill development requirements by using South African workers on the project.
Vestas Northern and Central Europe president Nils de Baar said: “We are very dedicated to making a difference in South Africa and contribute to enhancing socio-economic growth and sustainable educational development.
“We are doing so by procuring locally produced towers, contracting local transport companies and supporting community school programs through our own initiative, the Vestas Empowerment Trust.”
