Ohio outfit One Energy is to install three Goldwind turbines to supply electricity to Ball Corp’s drinks packaging factory in Findlay in the US state.
The new hardware will join three existing Goldwind machines that have been supplying electricity to the plant since December 2015.
Construction will start by the end of the year and the expanded wind farm will meet 30% of the plant’s power needs over the next 20 years.
One Energy is financing the $9m project. The Findlay plant makes recyclable metal containers.
Findlay factory manager Glenn Jost said expanding the use of wind to deliver electricity to the plant ensures a fixed-rate cost for a significant amount of the plant’s power needs for decades.
“This adds to the sustainability advantage of metal packaging compared to other substrates, like plastics and glass,” he said.
