Construction has kicked off at Centaurus Renewable Energy’s 200MW Wright solar farm in California’s Central Valley.
The project, which will come online late next year, will supply electricity to Peninsula Clean Energy under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
Construction and operations are being managed by Clenera, with Swinerton Renewable Energy carrying out the building work.
Peninsula Clean Energy is the electricity provider for 290,000 customers in San Mateo County.
Peninsula chief executive Jan Pepper said: “This is a huge step for Peninsula Clean Energy and our customers. The Wright solar project moves us toward our goal of providing all customers with 100% renewable power by 2025.
“This long-term contract locks in the price we pay for electricity, which helps ensure that our rates will remain low.”
Swinerton Renewable Energy president George Hershman said: “Our team is proud to partner with Peninsula Clean Energy and Clenera to bring affordable, clean power and hundreds of local jobs to California’s Central Valley.”
