James Fisher and Sons subsidiary EDS HV Group has completed work at Vattenfall’s over 93MW Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm off Scotland.
EDS was sub-contracted by Boskalis for the cable termination and testing work at the project, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre.
The company also provided HV consulting services for the wind farm as part of a separate contract. This work included the implementation of safety rules and the supply of ‘senior authorised persons’, network and a SCADA system review and commissioning support.
Aberdeen Bay is trialing new technology, including a 66kV cabling system, EDS said.
EDS group managing director Ken Ritson said: “66kV is quickly becoming the industry norm, and any change such as this needs to be carefully managed.
“EDS were happy to offer the enhanced level of competence and experience required to help to manage this change.”
Vattenfall officially opened Aberdeen Bay last month. The wind farm features two MHI Vestas V164 8.8MW turbines and nine 8.4MW machines.
