New Mexico regulators have given the green light to Pattern Development’s 2200MW Corona wind complex.
The Public Regulation Commission voted four to zero to approve the location control permit for the scheme, which will feature about 950 wind turbines.
Pattern said the approval means that construction can start on the development.
Thousands of jobs will be created during construction and approximately 100 once the project is operational by the end of 2020, the company said.
Pattern Development chief executive Mike Garland said: “We greatly appreciate the commission’s diligent work to ensure that we had an effective review process, that our filing was complete and that New Mexico residents will continue to benefit from our initiative.
“Our team is now able to move forward with the Corona wind projects, creating over a thousand new construction jobs and generating billions of dollars in economic impact, while continuing to progress New Mexico as a leader in wind energy.”
