Siemens Gamesa has achieved type certification for its new 2.1-122 turbine from testing body TUV SUD.
The 2.1MW hardware has a rotor diameter of 122 metres and has been designed for low-wind sites.
TUV SUD reviewed and tested the overall concept and all the main components to check the turbine met International Electrotechnical Commission standards related to design, prototype testing and manufacturing.
TUV SUD head of wind energy Martin Webhofer said: “Investors, project engineers and wind farm managers worldwide rely on wind turbines certified according to international standards.”
Siemens Gamesa secured its first order for the new model in April from Sembcorp Green India, which ordered 143 turbines for a wind farm in Gujarat to be commissioned next year.
