Innogy is considering next steps after ambitions for the seven-turbine Ashmark wind farm were rejected by local planning officials in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
The utility developer said the around 21MW project near New Cumnock would have included shared community ownership and met with Holyrood good practice guidelines.
Innogy development manager Karen Fox expressed surprise and disappointed with the decision which “does not reflect the local support” for the wind farm.
She added: “No objections were raised by any of the statutory consultees and only two were raised by members of the public. Consenting Ashmark Hill community wind farm could have created a multi-million pound investment fund for New Cumnock.”
Innogy said East Ayrshire could also have benefitted from the substantial economic and jobs benefits associated with this development.
The developer will now decide whether to appeal the decision.
