GE is to supply turbines totalling 48MW to Italian energy company Eni’s Badamsha wind farm in Kazakhstan, the manufacturer’s first order in the country.
The deal covers supply of 13 3.8-130 machines with 85-metre hub heights and 137-metre rotors.
Badamsha, which is located in the Aktobe region of north-west Kazakhstan, is Eni’s first large-scale investment in wind power. It is expected to come online by the end of next year.
GE Renewable Energy president and chief executive Jerome Pecresse said: “Badamsha marks our first wind project with Eni and our first in Kazakhstan.
“We are extremely proud to be working alongside Eni during an exciting time for them and for the entire energy segment, where GE Renewable Energy’s role as integrator enables better synergies across our industries.”
Eni executive vice president of energy solutions Luca Cosentino said: “With this project Eni is pleased to fully support the country’s ambitious goal to procure 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2050.
“The Badamsha plant represents a first concrete achievement of the memorandum of understanding we signed last year with GE and the Ministry of Energy.”
He added that Eni plans to invest €1.2bn in renewables over the next four years, including wind, solar and hybrid projects.
