Orsted has signed a power purchase agreement with Innogy for electricity from the latter’s 860MW Triton Knoll wind farm off the east coast of England.
The 15-year deal will see the Danish giant take 100% of the power from the project, which is slated to be operational in 2021.
Once operational, Orsted said it will handle “intra-day fluctuations in volume and prices balancing the power into the grid”.
Innogy chief operating officer Hans Bunting said: “With the signing of this PPA with Orsted and the financial closure, which we have reached today, we are confident that our flagship Triton Knoll offshore wind farm has robust, financial security at its heart.”
“While we may compete in some areas of renewables, I’m delighted that we have secured this cooperation with Orsted and look forward to working closely with them in the future,” Bunting added.
Work on Triton Knoll’s onshore electrical system is already underway, with work in the water expected to begin in 2019, Innogy said.
