Irish system operators Eirgrid and ESB Networks have awarded over 500MW of new capacity offers to renewables.
A total of 294MW of onshore wind and 252MW of solar have been awarded access to the grid under the new allocation round known as ECP-1.
In total 963MW of new generation was awarded capacity in a heavily-oversubscribed round.
Of this, a further 371MW was given to new battery storage projects with the remaining 46MW going to “conventional plant”.
Offshore wind did not secure any capacity in the allocation round.
Meanwhile, an “additional” 843MW of pre-existing solar projects have been “folded in” to the 2018 batch.
“Some offers will issue in 2018 with the majority of offers to issue in 2019 and possibly into 2020,” said Eirgrid.
Capacity is due online in the coming years.
