South African company BioTherm has reached financial close at two wind projects totalling 152MW in South Africa.
The 120MW Golden Valley facility is located near Bedford in the Eastern Cape province while the 32MW Excelsior project is close to Swellendam in the Western Cape.
The Excelsior project is expected to go online by the end of 2019 with operations at Golden Valley to follow in 2020.
Both projects, which have power purchase agreements with national utility Eskom, are part of South Africa’s renewable energy power procurement programme.
Mott MacDonald acted as lenders’ technical advisor on the projects and will monitor construction in an ongoing role.
Mott MacDonald’s project manager Ulwin Hoffman said: “These projects will have positive impacts on the economies of the surrounding local communities, while complying with international environmental and social standards.”
