Minesto is poised to start subsea testing of its 500kW tidal kite off the coast of north Wales after completing initial commissioning sea trials.
The Swedish company said the DG500 will undergo “flying” full subsea trajectories off Holyhead as part of the next phase of commissioning tests.
Minesto will also verify the power take-off system and electricity generation.
The commissioning has so far tested and verified the kite control system, launch and recovery systems, connections and communications in various sea states.
Minesto chief operating officer David Collier said: “This is a very significant step towards our ultimate goal of proving the complete DG500 system.”
