Installed wind energy capacity in the US surpassed 90GW in the second quarter of the year, with the addition of 626MW of new projects, according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
Almost 19GW of new wind farms are under construction in the US, with building work starting on projects totalling 5322MW from April to the end of June.
The total number of projects under construction is now 18,987MW, with a further 3901MW of new capacity entering advanced development, AWEA added.
AWEA chief executive Tom Kiernan said: “Wind power’s job creating engine just kicked into a higher gear.
“And all Americans will benefit as the record number of wind farms under construction begin delivering new revenue to rural communities and affordable homegrown energy to consumers.”
