The Texas Public Utility Commission has rejected AEP subsidiary Southwestern Electric Power Company’s proposed 70% ownership of the 2GW Wind Catcher project, according to local news reports.
The commission said the project would be too costly for SWEPCO’s customers, the reports said.
AEP had planned SWEPCO to own 70% of Wind Catcher and another subsidiary Public Service Company of Oklahoma the remaining 30%.
The 2GW project would also include a 563km transmission link to supply AEP customers in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.
Louisiana and Arkansas regulators have approved the project, which is being developed by Invenergy and GE, featuring 800 of the latter’s 2.5MW turbines.
