Consultancy BVG Associates is to support the US state of Virginia in the latter’s efforts to develop an offshore wind supply chain and service industry.
The company will work with Virginia’s Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy on planning for the supply chain, port infrastructure requirements and maritime needs.
Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) director John Warren said: “BVG Associates will assist Virginia in its aggressive pursuit of offshore wind supply chain and service industry business interests along the east coast.
“We are excited to work with an independent team of experts with global experience on this long-term economic development opportunity to capitalise on Virginia’s logistical and workforce advantage.”
BVG Associates advisory director Andy Geissbuehler said: “DMME’s comprehensive leadership role, reinforced by Virginia’s unique operational and economic advantages, will enable the offshore wind industry not only in Virginia but all along the US east coast.
“BVG Associates and its partners are excited to combine European experiences and US expertise to collaborate with Virginia to plan leveraging its assets towards a location of choice for the offshore wind supply chain and service industry.”
Meanwhile, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has launched a website offering potential supply chain companies information on offshore wind opportunities.
