Transmission system operator TenneT has kicked off construction of a 380kV power line in Lower Saxony that will bring renewable energy to high-demand areas in the west and south of Germany.
The 60km power line connecting Ganderkesee and St Hülfe is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
However, talks with land owners along the power line route are ongoing, with consent for a number of sites yet to be reached, TenneT said.
Earlier this month, TenneT started construction of a 380kV power line connecting Meppen in North-Rhine Westphalia with the grid hub at Dörpen West, Lower Saxony.
A third project in the region, connecting Wahle and Mecklar, received planning approval in early December.
Last year, policymakers in Berlin restricted the expansion of offshore wind farms in the German North Sea until the early 2020s because of slow progress on grid expansion in Lower Saxony.
“We want to get planning approval for all grid expansion projects within our jurisdiction,” said Lower Saxony energy minister Olaf Lies.
