Vattenfall has bought a further 32 turbines at the 295MW Wieringermeer wind farm in the Netherlands from Windcollectief Wieringermeer, bringing its total ownership at the 100-turbine project to 82 machines.
Windcollectief Wieringermeer is a joint venture between the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, Nuon and partners and will own the remaining 17 turbines.
The wind farm is being repowered with the original 93 turbines to be replaced by 99 new units.
An additional turbine will be made available for local residents, Vattenfall said.
The company said that Wieringermeer’s old turbines have been removed and ground works are to start soon to prepare for installation of the new turbines next year.
The wind farm is expected to be generating electricity in 2019.
Vattenfall wind business head Gunnar Groebler said: “The additional 32 wind turbines will complement our portfolio in the Netherlands perfectly.
“The Netherlands are an important market for us and the acquisition strongly supports our strategic goal to be fossil-free within one generation.”
