Xcel Energy has unveiled plans for a new 300MW wind farm in South Dakota.
The Dakota Range project has been developed by Apex Clean Energy and will feature Vestas turbines.
It is expected to be operational in 2021, depending on regulatory approval.
The project is the first publicly announced to advance under the phase down period of federal tax credits, Xcel said.
“Even without full tax credit, the project’s cost is low enough to compete with other fuel sources, an investment that is expected to lower customer bills over the project’s life,” the company added.
Xcel chairman, president and chief executive Ben Fowke said: “This project proves we can keep driving the clean energy transition of our supply mix while keeping customer bills low, even as incentives phase out.”
