A majority of local residents that would be impacted by Vattenfall’s proposed extension to its 300MW Thanet offshore wind farm think the project is a good idea, according to an independent survey.
The survey, carried out by Lake Market Research for Vattenfall, found 60% of 748 local residents canvassed in Thanet and Sandwich Bay supported the project.
Some 29% said they were not sure about the extension, with the remainder saying it was not a good idea.
Of those supporting the project, 50% cited its green credentials as the reasons for their backing, Vattenfall said.
The survey was carried out in May.
Vattenfall project manager for the Thanet extension Helen Jameson said: “We started talking to local people about our plans for an extension to Vattenfall’s Thanet offshore wind farm late last year.
“It’s early days for the extension proposal and we can never take support for granted, nonetheless, it’s obviously good to hear that the survey found strong support among residents for the idea of an extension.”
Vattenfall unveiled plans in January for an extension of around 34 turbines and up to 340MW.
