Minesto has taken delivery of the wing for its under-construction tidal kite to be installed off Holyhead on the north Wales island of Anglesey.
The wing was delivered to Minesto’s yard in Holyhead from Southampton, where it was fabricated by composite component specialist Green Marine.
The commercial-scale wing with inner beams made from carbonfibre and an outer shell in fibreglass measures 12 metres between the wingtips and 3.3 metres across.
The wing weighing three tonnes is a key component off Minesto’s 500kW Deep Green tidal kite to be installed off Holyhead next year.
In parallel with the wing delivery, static and fatigue load tests have been performed on wing sections.
All tests have been successful with results in accordance with calculations, the Swedish developer said.
Assembly of various parts and joints has started and will continue during the autumn, it added.
