Eon and Statoil have officially kicked off construction at the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
The first of 60 turbine monopiles have been successfully installed at the project site, following from a shared 50Hertz substation foundation that went in end-July, the partners said today.
EEW supplied the 1200 tonne XL components for Arkona and Van Oord vessel Svanen is in charge of installation in waters up to 37 metres deep.
A total of 400 people are currently working on Arkona, which will ramp up to 600 at the height of construction. Operations are based at Mukran Port in Sassnitz.
Arkona is 35m off the island of Rugen and is due to go live in 2019. It will feature Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines.
