Vestas lands Swedish mega-deal

Vestas has won a monster order to supply 80 of its V136 turbines to the Askalen wind farm in Sweden.

The Danish manufacturer will deliver optimised 3.6MW machines to the project near Ostersund in the third quarter of 2019.

Commissioning of the project is due in 2020. Askalen is being developer by APG Group and HgCapital company Vasa Vind.

The 288MW deal is the largest ever for Vestas in Sweden and includes a 20-year service deal.

“Askalen wind park achieves increased annual energy production through the combination of larger rotor and high capacity factor, hereby demonstrating the strong fit of Vestas’s V136 turbine in the Swedish market,” said the manufacturer.

Vasa chief executive Annette Eriksson said: “This high-efficiency turbine is another step forward in the relentless drive to lower the cost of wind power and Vestas has proven once more to be an important partner in this journey.”

Meanwhile, EDF Renewable Energy has ordered V110-2.0MW models totalling 70MW for the Copenhagen wind farm in New York state.

The deal includes a 10-year active output management (AOM) 5000 service agreement.

The project, which includes previously purchased components, has a total size of 80MW and consists of 40 turbines.

Turbine nacelles, blades and towers will be produced at Vestas’ Colorado factories with delivery expected to begin in the third quarter of 2018.

The Copenhagen order is part of the previously announced global master supply agreement between Vestas, EDF Energies Nouvelles and EDF Renewable Energy for deliveries in 2016 to 2019.

Vestas has also secured an engineering, procurement and construction contract from a Tilt Renewables for the 54MW Salt Creek wind farm in Victoria, Australia.

The company will supply 15 V126-3.45MW machines optimised to 3.6MW to the project in Woorndoo.

Turbine delivery is expected in the first quarter of 2018, with commissioning in the third quarter of the same year.

The order also includes a 25-year AOM 4000 service agreement and SCADA VestasOnline business system.
