SSE has started commercial operations at the first phase of the 169MW Galway wind farm in Ireland.
The 66MW phase is officially named Comhlacht Gaoithe Teoranta and consists of 22 Siemens 3MW turbines located in county Galway.
SSE said work is ongoing at phase 2, which it is developing as a 50:50 joint venture with Irish forestry company Coillte, and is expected to be completed later this year.
Phase two will feature 47 Siemens 3MW machines.
SSE Galway wind farm project manager James O’Hara said: “Phase 1 is an impressive wind farm in its own right, and its completion is a major milestone in the context of the overall Galway wind park project.”
