The Scottish government has rejected EDF and Force 9 plans for the 13-turbine Cnoc an Eas wind farm north Loch Ness.
Officials at the Planning and Environmental Appeals Division dismissed an case filed by the developers in support of the 44.2MW proposal west of Drumnadrochit in the Great Glen.
“The proposed development does not accord overall with the relevant provisions of the development plan and there are no material considerations which would still justify granting planning permission,” said PEAD.
Highland Council had previously rejected the wind farm on landscape, visual and cumulative grounds. Impacts on the historic environment were also a concern.
EDF/Force 9 had promised a ‘buy local’ campaign worth some £28m to Scotland over the lifetime of the wind farm.
Tips at the project had been set at 136.5 metres and hardware of up to 3.4MW was being considered.
