The first Siemens transformer for one of the two offshore substations at the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm, which is located off the coast of Scotland, has left the factory in Germany.
Siemens is delivering two offshore transformer modules (OTMs), which are about one-third smaller than conventional platforms, as well as the onshore substation for the Beatrice.
The OTMs will be linked together to provide the required transmission capacity, Siemens said.
Siemens will also supply, install and commission 84 7MW turbines for the project, which is expected to come online in 2019.
