The Scottish government is to set up a dedicated forestry management body to oversee activities north of the border.
Under draft legislation announced today, the National Forest Estate will via new agency Forestry and Land Scotland be dedicated to “economic, environmental and social outomes”.
Assets previously controlled by the Forestry Commission via FC Scotland, including renewables leases totalling more than 2.2GW, will now be directly under the control of Scottish ministers.
Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said: “The bill and other changes announced today will enable us to deliver on our bold ambitions. Existing staff will transfer to new bodies as civil servants and I value their knowledge and experience.”
