Nuon’s planned 50-turbine Wieringermeer wind farm in the Dutch province of North Holland is facing an eight-month delay due to a grid connection issue.
Network company Liander said the planned connection of July 2018 is no longer feasible and the 180MW project is now expected to be connected around spring 2019.
Nuon said it is awaiting a new date for the construction of a network connection by Liander.
The developer’s tender for the purchase of 50 wind turbines each rated at 3.6MW has been postponed.
“We have been preparing for years and unfortunately the network connection has been delayed. This means that our own planning will also increase considerably and that construction of the wind farm will start later,” said project manager Gerard van Oostveen.
The project is a collaboration between: Nuon, the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands and Windcollective Wieringermeer.
The current 93 turbines are being replaced by 99 new units, of which 50 will be the Nuon machines.
