The UK government is offering up to £13m of combined support to developers of innovation projects that address a need for clean, affordable and secure energy supplies.
The so-called Energy Catalyst Competition is open to any UK-based organisation and may include international partners, the government said. Universities and small and medium-sized businesses have been encouraged to apply.
There are three application options, based on the technical and commercial readiness of the projects, ranging from early-state feasibility studies costing up to £300,000 to later-state experimental development projects costing up to £1.5m.
The competition opens on 24 April with applications due by 28 June. Most projects are expected to start on 1 January, 2018, the government said.
The grant is being offered by the Department for International Development, Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
