Greenpeace has said the UK government’s imminent sale of the Green Investment Bank (GIB) to Australian outfit Macquarie is a “disaster”.
Climate minister Nick Hurd is expected to formally announce the sale of GIB today.
Greenpeace UK policy director Doug Parr said the sale, understood to be for £2.3bn, would slow the country’s transition to a clean energy system by giving away one of its “key tools for advancing green technologies”.
“If the government picks up its pace, the UK could be a world leader in renewable and green technology. But selling a great British success story, which levered private money into eco-projects, to a controversial Australian bank known for asset-stripping, is a disaster,” he added.
