The Ontario government has paid a $28m settlement to Windstream Energy following a dispute over the latter’s planned 300MW Wolfe Island offshore wind farm in the Great Lakes.
The developer won a NAFTA complaint last year after provincial ministers imposed a moratorium on freshwater development in February 2011.
It went to court earlier this year to request enforcement of the payment, which government officials said this week had now been paid including $95,000 in interest.
Windstream had alleged unfair treatment in the original case.
