Siemens is to supply and install a battery storage system for German public utility Stadtwerke Schwäbisch Hall.
The Siestorage system, which uses lithium-ion batteries, will have an output of 1MW at a capacity of more than 1.4 megawatt-hours, Siemens said.
Siemens will install all components, which also include inverters, transformers and the control system, in a single container and deliver it to the customer on a turnkey basis.
The system is expected to be connected to the grid and start operation in the summer.
Stadtwerke Schwäbisch Hall will use the solution for marketing primary control reserves.
Stadtwerke Schwäbisch Hall managing director Gebhard Gentner said: “The energy storage system complements our decentralised power generation plants very well.
“These plants cover 60% of total consumption in Schwäbisch Hall, and now consist of a disproportionately high share of renewables.”
