Dong Energy is installing bird deterrents at its 90MW Burbo Bank wind farm in Liverpool Bay in a bid to resolve a guano problem.
The large volume of guano left on foundations by perching Cormorants poses a health and safety risk for technicians and leaves the turbines in need of frequent cleaning, the company said.
Dong is investing about £75,000 to install plastic snow fencing and anti-bird spikes around each foundation platform to try to keep the birds at bay.
Following a successful trial earlier this year, 10 of the site’s 25 Siemens 3.6MW turbines have been kitted out with the bird repelling hardware, with work across the site expected to finished by the end of 2017.
