A Dutch quintet of engineering and design companies have formed a joint venture to investigate how best to transport and install gravity-base foundations for offshore wind.
The five will examine rough sea installations, seabed impacts and towing responses as well as a range of projects logistics.
MARIN, Deltares, Witteveen + Bos, Vuyk Engineering and ECN make up the consortium.
“In this project, transportation to the wind farm site and installation is simulated and tested at the wave tanks of MARIN and Deltares for more stringent conditions. This will lead to more insights in the operational weather limits for transport and installation of the foundations,” said the consortium.
The findings and outputs from the work will be published in a handbook for the offshore wind industry.
