Heavy lift specialist ALE has carried out almost 400 transport operations and over 300 lifts for multiple offshore wind contracts in the UK over the last nine months.
The company has set up a dedicated facility and operations team, which is working on the 402MW Dudgeon, 573MW Race Bank and 336MW Galloper offshore wind developments.
ALE has been executing the handling and pre-assembly of imported towers, nacelles and blades for Dudgeon in Hull.
The size of the blades – 75 metres – and weight of the nacelles (360 tonnes) has meant that the company has adopted roll on/roll off processes, where possible, instead of lifting, ALE said.
It is currently undertaking the pre-assembly operations for all the turbine components for Race Bank and Galloper.
Hull-based projects operational manager Dave Smith said: “ALE has invested heavily in state of the art equipment, training and personnel specifically for these projects.
“We achieved several key milestones throughout all three projects so far and will continue to progress in our operations.”
