Xcel Energy plans to build two wind farms in Texas and New Mexico totalling 1GW and buy a further 230MW from another project in Texas.
The company now has plans for 3.38GW of new wind capacity by 2021.
Invenergy will develop the 522MW Sagamore facility in Roosevelt County, New Mexico, while NextEra Energy Resources will build the 478MW Hale project located in Hale County, Texas, for Xcel.
A power purchase agreement between Xcel and NextEra Energy Resources has also been agreed for electricity from the 230MW Bonita wind farm in Cochran and Crosby Counties, Texas.
Last week, Xcel announced plans for three new wind farms totalling 800MW in Minnesota and North and South Dakota, having previously announced a further 1350MW of new wind capacity.
