EDF Renewable Energy (RE) has set up a new business unit to focus on distributed solar and energy storage projects of up to 30MW in the US.
The Distributed Electricity and Storage (DES) group will “pursue emerging distributed-energy opportunities to provide unique products and services to commercial, industrial and utility customers in the US”, EDF said.
The DES team has been bolstered by the additions of Tom Leyden and Felix Aguayo, the company added.
Leyden is the former chief executive of Solar Grid Storage, while Aguayo was a managing director at SunEdison.
EDF RE vice president portfolio strategy Raphael Declercq said: “In ramping up our commitment to distributed generation and energy storage, EDF RE will be developing new products for our customers that will also help enable greater penetration of wind and solar into the grid.”
EDF has developed 9GW of wind, solar, bioenergy and storage projects in the US, Mexico and Canada and has over 300MW of storage globally.
